Mirror Sample Approval Checklist: Fit, Finish, Functions and Packing

Use a sample approval checklist to record mirror fit, finish, functions and packaging before production.

A mirror sample is most useful when it is reviewed against an agreed specification. “Looks good” does not record whether the sample matches the intended dimensions, control behavior or packaging. Build a short approval record that can be used again during production inspection.

Start with a reference pack

Keep the current drawing, finish reference, feature list and packing proposal together. Assign a revision or date to each. Record the sample reference and which aspects it represents. A finish sample may approve color and texture without approving the entire mirror structure; an unpacked sample cannot demonstrate the final shipping protection.

Review appearance consistently

Compare shape, edge treatment, frame joints, visible coating and alignment with the agreed references. Review the mirror under consistent lighting and record the conditions used. Photograph any issue with its location identified. Avoid inventing a universal cosmetic tolerance: acceptable limits and the inspection method should be agreed for the order.

Check fit against the drawing

Record the measured overall dimensions and the corresponding drawing values. Review fixing positions, rear clearance and cable-entry position. For cabinets, include door movement, shelf arrangement and the dimensions that control wall fit. Do not treat a photograph with a ruler as a replacement for the approved drawing or installer review.

Review the specified functions

For powered products, list each agreed control and its expected behavior: switching, brightness adjustment, color selection or defogger control, where selected. Have qualified personnel perform any electrical or installation checks using the model instructions. This guide is an approval checklist, not a procedure for energizing, opening or testing electrical equipment.

Record differences between requested and supplied behavior. Confirm how the product should behave after power is restored if that is relevant to the project. Do not approve an unspecified change solely because the sample can be switched on.

Approve the packing arrangement separately

List the product protection, accessories, instructions, carton marks and labels that should be included. Identify the intended shipping and handling arrangement before asking for a packaging test proposal. Agree the test method, acceptance criteria and evidence required; do not assume every packaging design has passed the same test.

Record carton dimensions and gross weight from the actual proposed packing specification. A display image of foam or a carton is not evidence of an approved packing test or a measured shipping weight.

For bulk ocean shipments, use the packaging inspection before shipment checklist to connect the approved pack with shipping marks, container loading and release evidence.

Use clear approval states

  • Approved: the identified sample and revision are accepted within the agreed scope.
  • Approved with recorded changes: list each change and specify whether a revised sample, photograph, drawing or other evidence is needed.
  • Not approved: identify the issue and the evidence required for the next review.

Keep unresolved items visible and assign a responsible person and review date. Confirm how a component, finish or drawing change after approval will be reviewed. Sample approval and bulk inspection are separate checkpoints; one does not replace the other.

Ask for the evidence that matches the claim

A factory-capacity statement needs a defined period and supporting records. A product certification statement needs matching model documentation. Intertek explains how to verify products that bear its marks through its Inspector Information Center. This does not establish certification for any OJMirror model.
