Glass reference, drawing tolerances, edge treatment, viewing conditions and acceptable visual defects.

01 / MIRROR GLASS

Mirror glass inspection

Review the mirror face, reflection and finished edges against the approved glass specification.

  • Surface condition

Check the clean mirror face for scratches, spots and visible blemishes under the agreed lighting.

  • Reflection quality

Review visible waviness or distortion using consistent viewing conditions and a suitable reference.

  • Dimensions & cutouts

Check size, thickness, shape, holes and cutout positions against the approved drawing and tolerances.

  • Edges & corners

Inspect for chips, cracks or rough areas, and check polishing or beveling against the specified finish.

  • Reflective layer & backing

Review visible coating defects, edge discoloration and damage to the protective backing before assembly. For an existing mirror with dark edges, see our guide to mirror desilvering and backing damage.

  • Safety film, if specified

Match film type, coverage and positioning to the specification; inspect for bubbles or lifting.

AGREE BEFORE PRODUCTION

Material and finish references, joint appearance, dimensional tolerances, glass clearances and fixing details.

02 / MIRROR FRAME

Mirror frame inspection

Check the frame finish, construction and fit as part of the finished mirror assembly.

  • Surface & finish

Review scratches, dents, coating defects, color and texture against the approved finish sample.

  • Joints & corners

Check joint gaps, alignment and finish continuity, including miters or welds where relevant.

  • Dimensions & shape

Check overall size, profile and flatness; include squareness for rectangular frames or contours for shaped designs.

  • Glass seating & fit

Review glass alignment, clearances, supports and the specified protective materials within the frame.

  • Fixings & mounting points

Check the presence, position and assembly of specified fasteners, brackets and mounting components.

  • Material & finish records

Match material and surface-treatment references to the order specification and supporting documents.

WHEN PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE IS NEEDED

Agree separate evidence or testing for corrosion resistance, coating adhesion, mounting strength or safety-film performance where required. Appearance checks alone do not establish these properties.

SIX AREAS TO REVIEW

Select a checkpoint for the finished product. Match the checks to the functions included in your order.

01Appearance & dimensionsAll product types

Review the assembled product for visible damage, overall dimensions and alignment. Use the glass and frame criteria above and the approved sample as references.

Surface condition · Edge finish · Dimensions · Alignment

02Lighting & controlsLighted configurations

Include illumination, light consistency, dimming, color settings and switch response where specified. Confirm the selected driver, controls and expected behavior with the approved configuration.

Illumination · Dimming · Color settings · Control response

03Anti-fog & selected functionsAs specified on the order

Define checks for the functions included in your model, such as the demister, sensor or digital display. Agree the operating conditions, expected response and any timing requirements in the inspection plan.

Demister operation · Sensor response · Display behavior

04Electrical requirementsModel and market specific

Confirm the electrical test scope and supporting documents for the finished model and destination market. Any required safety testing or IP verification needs an agreed method and applicable evidence.

Electrical configuration · Test scope · Applicable documents

05Assembly & cabinet fitFrames, fittings and cabinets

Review frame joints, mounting components and accessory fit. For medicine cabinets, include door alignment, hinges, shelves and opening clearances relevant to the selected design.

Frame joints · Fixing components · Door alignment · Hardware

06Packaging & identificationThe agreed shipping route

Review surface and corner protection, accessories, carton identification and quantities against the packing specification. If transport testing is required, agree the protocol separately for the complete packed product.

BEYOND THE MIRROR SURFACE

Mirror back-paint
cross-cut testing.

A closer look at the protective layer behind the mirror.

Review how the mirror’s protective back paint resists separation in a cross-cut test. Agree the test method, sampling plan and acceptance criteria for the specified coating system before production.

BEFORE THE FIRST CUT

Start with a
clear test plan.

Align these three details before preparing the sample.

Test method
Specify the applicable method and edition, such as ISO 2409 where suitable.
Sample & frequency
Identify the coating system, sample reference and agreed sampling plan.
Acceptance & records
Agree the rating, acceptance threshold, photos and report format in advance.

THE TEST SEQUENCE

Five steps.
One traceable record.

Sequence shown for a cross-cut tape procedure.
Follow the selected method for the exact steps.

  1. 01

    Make cross-cuts

Create a lattice in the coating using the selected method and cutting tool.

  2. 02

    Clean the area

Remove loose coating particles as required by the agreed procedure.

  3. 03

    Apply the tape

Where required, apply the specified tape and ensure consistent contact.

  4. 04

    Remove the tape

Follow the removal timing and angle defined by the chosen method.

  5. 05

    Inspect & record

Record coating separation, the applicable rating and the sample reference.

A cross-cut result assesses resistance to coating separation. It does not, on its own, establish corrosion resistance or service life.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Quality testing FAQs.

Answers on test scope, inspection arrangements and supporting documents.

Test scopeAre the same tests used for every mirror and cabinet?

No. A plain mirror, a lighted mirror and a medicine cabinet have different inspection needs. The scope should follow the approved model, selected functions, destination market and order requirements.

Your checklistCan we provide our own inspection checklist?

Send your checklist with the drawing and product brief. We can review the requested checks, acceptance criteria, inspection stages and records before confirming the order scope.

ComplianceDoes an IP rating or certificate cover every configuration?

Do not assume it does. Confirm that the relevant report or certificate covers the finished model and its actual electrical configuration. Changes to components or construction may require a further review.

Third-party reviewCan a third-party inspection be arranged?

Include this requirement before order confirmation. The inspection scope, access, timing, sampling and release arrangements need to be agreed for the project.

DocumentationWhich inspection records should we request?

Depending on your project, request measurement records, appearance and function-check evidence, packing photos, labels or quantity checks. Availability, format and delivery timing should be agreed before production.
